Motorcycle Boot thoughts

So, I always wear a pair of boots while riding however they are not "motorcycle boots". Rather, just a pair of boots. I went to the dealership to look at moto boots and the things were like a solid piece that went half way up my calf and I could hardly walk in them. I need boots that I can ride with, then walk around in.

What do you wear/use..

I prefer more protection than those low-cut ones, and find that there are a ton of boots out there -- usually categorized as "sport touring boots" that work well. The typical "street/sport/track" types of boots are not really designed for much beyond riding a motorcycle. They do provide better protection, but they are single-purpose. I have a pair of those and they're useful for weekend when I know I'm just riding, with stops for coffee, bite to eat, bathroom, etc.

These are what I'm riding with around town most of the time. Just wore them to a happy hour type event across town and nobody even noticed:

SIDI Tour Rain Boots - RevZilla

These are similar but lower cut and a bit more comfortable with a bit less protection around the heel. I decided that I wanted the extra protection and could live with the slightly less comfortable boot.

SIDI Traffic Air Boots - RevZilla (There's a waterproof version as well)

A number of manufacturers make boots similar to these. Mostly the ones that you could wear to work or a party are from the European companies, and yeah, they can be pricey.

Unfortunately, I haven't found many of these locally, even in LA. Had to order online and deal with the potential of having to exchange. I was lucky in that I've been wearing Sidi cycling shoes for years and had a pretty good idea how they would fit me, which made things a bit easier.

but then, if I'm walking, I'm bringing my regular shoes too. The boots will break-in and be tolerable for short stops, I wouldn't want to walk around all day in them though.

I wear various types of steel toe work boots from Sears. Certainly lacking the hard ankle protection, but otherwise great.

I got a set of these in black, at the once again, current sale price of $59.99! Whoots! They're fine for walking short distances: Picking something up at the store, perusing Barnes and Noble, etc. I've even worn them to the movies, and was perfectly comfortable. I wouldn't want to sport them for a day at the fair or all day at class or work or something like that, though.

They are my first set of sport-riding boots, so I can't compare them to anything in the same category. I find the perforation is very effective and they breathe well. If it's chilly, you'll feel it on your feet. If it's hot and your feet start to sweat, you feel the wind cruising through the boot and cooling your feet.

Protection seems about what I'd expect from a sport-riding boot. Ankle, heel, toe, calf.

For 60 bucks, I'm pretty pleased with them.

If you prefer a hiking style boot Icon sells some good ones and reasonably priced. I just recently purchased some Aplinestar Fastbacks and am loving them. Almost bought the SMX2 but didn't think I needed quite that much armour for my riding. Comfy, light and waterproof to boot (pardon the pun). For springtime I picked up a cheap pair of SP1 waterproofs + good insulation. The problem I have with high boots is thick calves.

For the guys riding Sidi Fusion I was wondering if a) do they fit under jeans or do you wear riding pants and b) how high are they up the leg? I really like the look of them and reasonably priced too.

Shift Kicker if you can still find them somewhere. Hightop shoe style, great ankle support & paddidng, walk around all day comfort.
