Manufacturer oil recommendations

09 FZ6R the manual states 10W-40 and 20W-50. The sticker on the swing arm states 20W-40 and 10W-30. Anyone ever try 20W-40 or the 10W-30 in their bike? Why the difference between manual and swing arm sticker?

I don't know about the difference in the stickers, but if you look at MOM there is a whole range if oils you can use depending in the ambient temperature. I'm using 15w40 here in Maine, not planning to ride in extreme temperatures.

I've never seen a 20-40 motorcycle oil.

Honda specifies 10-30 in some of their bikes, they sell Honda branded regular and synthetic oils at that rating. One or two other companies also sell 10-30 but you usually have to special-order it. Even my local Honda dealer uses 10-40 here.

In hotter areas for the FZ6R I'd go for the slightly heavier oils. You can get 10-50 or 15-50 that will cover all bases. Back in the day that I had to worry about such things I always used the heavier oil in the summer, the lighter one in the winter. I made a point to change every six months: Beginning of October and beginning of April.

I used 10-40 on my fz6r with no problems...


If you change it when your supposed to you should be fine...

I use 10w-40 during the fall/winter/early spring seasons. I use 15w-50 during the summer.

I have found a good thick malt beer works best
im so sad I don't even know whats in my bike. I said dealer change my oil and he said ok.
