LMD's Tight Mods Thread

LMD's Mods on a Budget!

Hey everyone!

I spent hours trawling this forum when I was looking for parts to start personalising my bike, and got so many great ideas and links. Alot of them were simply beyond my budget though, so I wanted to find a cheaper option yet still achieve the look I wanted.

I found some interesting links on here for cheap eBay parts that no one was willing to be 'guinea pig' for (understandably!) so I thought it might as well be me :D

I'll keep this updated with pics as the parts arrive, so far I've only fitted my new windscreen and stared at my Fender Eliminator. Hoping to get it on over the next couple of days.

Here are the links to everything I've bought if you're interested in trying out these parts yourself :) I'll review everything as I go, and update this original post as to quality/fitment etc as well.

My bike is a 2010 Black and Gold FZ6R. All prices are in $AUS and are inclusive of shipping to Australia.

1. Dark smoke windshield - fits perfectly, was packed very securely so no scratches or damage. I am very impressed with the quality, and love the look and shape of it on my bike. Cost - $20 including shipping. The years on the listing are not correct, but the fit is.

2. Custom gold fender eliminator with Rear LED turn signals and plate light- the quality on this is great, fit was simple and easy too. The LED's are super bright, and it cleans up the back of the bike so nicely. Definitely love this mod! Cost - $50 including shipping.

3. Mirrors with integrated turn signals - Ok mirrors were probably the least successful. Took a lot of messing around to get them to fit, as well as using the old rubber boot from stock mirrors. Still isn't perfect though. Cosmetic wise, I think they look great and tidy up the bike significantly, but the visibility is TERRIBLE! Seriously cannot see anything but my hands at the best of times, which makes me feel very unsafe. I'll be replacing these with the ZX6R ones that everyone on here seems to use. Cost - $50 including shipping.

4. CNC Adjustable Shorty Levers, Black and Gold - These I found through the sticky thread on this forum. The last ones I bought for the FZ6R didn't fit, but these are great. Quality is impressive, colour is spot on and they feel great! Very happy here :) Cost - $30 including shipping.

5. Custom Name Graphics - Got to make it personal ;) Not quite the long-wearing quality I need, but as a quick fix they look perfect :) Cost - $7 including shipping.

6. Custom De-restricted throttle plate - A friend who does this kind of work professionally made this up for me. Cheapest I can find online is $180, he's doing it for a lot less than that. Any other Aussies looking to de-restrict their bike, PM me and I can pass on details :) He has made up several of them ready to go. This has totally transformed the bike!!

7. Metzeler M5 Sportec Interacts - all I can say is WOW! I had some serious confidence issues after my crash, but these tyres have made me feel right at home again. Fantastic feedback, grip is great all over the tyre, and best of all they weren't too expensive! Love the idea of a firmer compound in the centre to reduce wear from long highway miles while still staying soft and grippy when you lean it over. So happy with these! I got these from Rocky Mountain ATV alot cheaper than anywhere in Australia.

Haven't been able to ride yet cause my throttle plate is still out, but I'll opposite you when ive tested it out!

The shape looks much better than the stock one, comes slightly higher but is far more aerodynamic. I'll take a better pic soon.

Really JT? Thats crazy! I can always buy one and ship it to you, might still be cheaper than some of the other alternatives :)

Is oppositing some kind of Aussie slang? Doesn't sound pleasant. :p

TL;DR- As with any critical part of your bike that you replace, carefully inspect and test it out before you go WOT on the highway. :)
Haha yes, it's a very specialised secret practice that I can't share with you for reasons of National Security ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the levers. That's actually exactly what was wrong with the first ones I bought. They fit, kinda, but I really didn't like the way it wasn't 100% smooth, and the lack of proper recessing on the brake lever worried me. So I took them straight off, put the standards back on and thought stuff it I'll just wait for good ones.

I've got Pazzos on my racebike, wouldn't put anything else on there. With the absolute hiding the brakes cop at every turn, it's peace of mind knowing the good gear is there for me. When I read all the good reviews on here about the 2wheels ones though, I thought I'd give it another go on the roadie :) If I'm not 100% happy with the fit they won't be staying on the bike.

Appreciate the feedback though :)

SpawnXX, I'm totally with you there... I bought some 'pretty' gold bits for the track bike and they all came in different shades of tacky gold, from yellow through to orange. Wasn't impressed.

I really love what you've done with painting your bolts and footpegs, if I go down the gold route, I think I'll be buying some of that paint.. looks AWESOME!

I'm kinda thinking of doing everything black on mine, I went for a gold fender eliminator because the guy had colour matched it really well with the FZ6R rims..

So many decisions!! I've read lots of good things on here about PlastiDip, it's rather expensive over here ($35 a can) so I'd want to know it's good before I take the plunge. Was going to do my bolts, pegs, gear selectors, etc.. Basically everything that is silver I'd like to make it black.

Well that's the idea for now anyway... Might wake up tomorrow and go for gold :p

Just a few quick pics cause it started pouring with rain..

Fender eliminator, integrated indicator mirrors, and shorty levers all fitted :)

And my name stickers of course :p

Will take closer pics of the mods and do a detailed write up when the rain stops and I'm back on the computer :)

Edit: double post!
