52 and 54 are the Euro sizings. Which would be equivalent to a 42 and a 44 in American. It's the sizing of your shoulders.

im more of a medium of t shirts and shoulder with is nowhere near 42"

I just tried the 42 red on, and I have a sweatshirt on, and it was a little big on me. I'm 5'8" and an averagely sized woman(155). I don't have huge shoulders though. But you wanna stand relaxed and have someone take a tape measure and measure your shoulders. Hold one end of the tape measure on one shoulder and wrap it around to where you meet the end.
