If you were taking this trip...

What sites would you stop and see? I don't mean what towns or cities. I mean sites in those towns. I'm going to hit the Jack Daniels distillery and the Barber Motorcycle Museum. Any other ideas?

depends on what you are into really. some of the places I've been close to your map and enjoyed:
- go a little more south and hit up New Orleans if you haven't yet already, get a nice buzz on some hurricanes and some very good eats there.
- biloxi MS is a nice coast, they have tons of casinos there to stay for cheap $ and again some good eats.
- atlanta has an awesome aquarium, coke museum & factory tour
- is your route taking you on any part of the blue ridge parkway/Smoky Mountains through the carolinas/TN?

for sure Barber Motorcycle Museum. check the track schedule and see if they're running anything while in the area, just to see some bikes or cars flying around

Been to NOLA for a week last year, what an amazing place. Too busy for me to stop on the bike...I think. Maybe I need to slide through Atlanta, the Coke museum and factory sounds like a neat stop. (looking for short stops since the trip is pretty long) Not sure about blue ridge or the smoky mountains. I've never traveled (on the bike) through this part of the country before. I went to Barber 3 years ago and freakin loved it. I really just want to get a pic of the bike in front of the building. The last time I went was not on the bike. Last time I watched a group of Porshe's race for an hour...so cool, and all the bikes...wow! Here is me with the custom MV Agusta.

Thanks for the ideas! Much appreciated brother.

It looks like your going thru Murphy, NC.

Take a side trip north and ride The Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap.

Its like 60 miles away.
DUDE...funny after reading about both of those places since I started riding 15 years ago, I didn't really realize I would be so close to them. What a great idea! Thanks!!!

Now I gotta hit up Google Maps and work that into the trip.

Great freakin idea. Thanks!

I'm trying to hit Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, N and S Carolina, and Florida on my quest for all 50 states. I need to do it before I PCS (military speak for move) this summer because my gut tells me we are moving overseas...

Otherwise I would have ridden to Key West if I was going just for scenery.

I will find out in February when/where we are moving since they cancelled our orders to Barksdale. :) I assume we will move in June/July so I'm planning to ride in mid-late May, probably starting on the 12th. That gives me 9 days to travel but I'm planning on doing the ride in 7 days. That works out to around 400 miles per day, which is what most distance riders shoot for.

I'll let you know for sure as it gets closer. I'd love to meet up for a ride!

You are missing a lot of good riding in the N Georgia area. Move your Georgia section north a bit. Hit Blood Mountain, Rt 60, and 180. Lots of good mountain riding there.

Take 64 east out of Chattanooga then take 68 north to 165 which is the Cherohala Skyway which takes you to 129. Go north on 129 and ride the Gap. Take NC 28 from the Gap to Franklin.

It will be the best riding you ever did, and you will go back and do it again!

That goes for your leg thru GA too.

I'm sure some folks (myself included) in the Atlanta area could hook up and run a few miles with you. Depending on what day of the week it is (for me anyway).

Keep us posted.
I sure will. It would be pretty cool to meet some of the bubbas from the forum.

If you have any interest in the Civil War you'll be passing by places like Shiloh (TN), Corinth and Iuka (MS), Chattanooga (TN), and Chickamauga (GA). Memphis is home to Graceland and The Memphis Belle, and Beale Street. If you're going to NC then ride over Smoky Mountain National Park from Gatlinburg, TN and/or go to Deal's Gap and ride The Dragon's Tail. Temperatures are still cool in May, and expect rain any time you're in the mountains. I ride these roads a couple times a year visiting family in Missouri. If you're looking for good beaches in N. Florida try Destin, and Ft. Walton/Panama City. Keep us up on when you'll be travelling. Maybe a 6R rally can be arranged!

I live in North Georgia, and you will enjoy everything the guys have listed in GA, TN & the Carolina area.

There are a few motorcycle camp-grounds up around the Cherohala Skyway, The Dragon, Blueridge Parkway also, with small cabins.

I covered 10 states last year on a ride. Have fun & be careful

"Ain't no beer in Murphy" (NC) is what the desk clerk told my wife and I after we checked in after a long day in the saddle.

So govern your self accordingly.

I second the ideas of making the little extra trip up to the Dragon. There are alot of really beautiful and scenic roads, some more technically difficult than others, around there and into North Carolina.

Thanks for the feedback! I can see that I may have to add a day to the trip if I add so much stuff, but that's okay. I'll have 2 extra days of time off from work anyways. I wanted to keep it flexible. I used to live in Florida but never rode there so I'm just going to graze through the tip near Alabama to get my "I was here" cool points. I'll surely post it up when I finalize the plans this spring. Thanks again!
