was it locked up? If I had an expensive helmet, I wouldn't leave it somewhere unsecured all day. Some assholes just don't like motorcycles, don't like motorcycle riders, or are jealous pricks...I assume these things and make sure I don't give anyone an opportunity to mess with my stuff. Hope you get someone to pay for it and don't have to learn the hard way... either way, I think lesson learned.
I know it is not a shoei, but if you drop one of their helmets and want to get it checked out, you can send it to them test it to see if it is still up to par.
Maybe AGV does the same thing? :don'tknow:
I would:
1. be mad someone touched my helmet, and screwed it up.
2. would get it sent in to be checked out (if possible)
3. make whoever pay for the cost of doing so and repairing if possible.
4. would probably still wear it b/c I don't totally agree with a short fall causing a problem.
wouldn't rocks have more force when riding 60 mph than a fall from 6 feet?
A fall from 6-7 feet is high, and different from 3 or 4 if that helmet were say in your hands and you dropped it on the ground. You don't know what way it fell other than cracking that piece either. Go get it checked out to see if it's ok, it's the only way to be certain (for some reason I remember places specializing in x-raying the interior of helmets to deem them safe - for skateboarders, cyclists, horse back riders, etc).
Learn your lesson and lock your shit up next time!
friend of mine low-sided a few track days ago... 60+ mph, the left side and back of the helmet was on the ground for the first and second impact, then he slid off into the grass/dirt... it looked bad, the helmet was all scuffed up and one of the side pods had come off.. he bought a new helmet the following week... another Arai
anyway, he sent the helmet into Arai to have it checked, just for fun... guess what, the helmet was sent back re-certified as safe to ride... no damage to the EPS...
OP your helmet is fine, that vent is held on with tape or glue... sucks that this happened but in the end the helmet is safe to ride... call STG or AGV and ask them to send you a replacement vent...
oh yeah, + 1 to "learn your lesson and lock your shit up next time"
