Short how to?I did a similar thing as JonKerr, except that I didn't add my own switch. I wired it to the high beam switch using a relay.
I used one of the remotes that came with my garage door opener. I opened it up and found the two contacts that showed continuity when I pressed the button. Then I soldered these contacts to a SPDT relay on terminals 30 and 87. Which wire goes to which terminal is irrelevant, as long as one is on 30 and the other is on 87.Short how to?
The hardest part was soldering the wires to the relay onto the board of the garage door opener remote. If you're not careful you'll make the solder run where it's not supposed to be and you'll have ruined a remote.
uhm... soldering is an art form... 600-700F is hot enough, and you want the metal parts to come up to heat, then apply a small amount of solder... a clean and properly tinned tip goes a long way...Super hot iron and only touch it for half a second. That's the only way to keep the other solder joints from heating up and running

Was that an insurance add or something? I think I saw that somewhere

How do you change the battery in your opener? It doesn't appear to be hotwired. Here you go. The little red button is it. You actually have to install the button first into the panel then solder your wires to it. Solder the wires to the circuit board first.
