Does the 6r have breathing issues ???

i did the air box mod yesterday .:wav:

It was the first time i lifted my tank and opened the air box and i was quite baffled when i saw the small holes on the side of the frame from where the engine is supposed to draw air from .:wtfgun:
It is even worse when you consider that those holes are also used to route all the cabling for the electrical .


Would the engine benefit from a bit more air freely flowing from maybe the two fake side pods (not the two upfront ,the two on the sides)

What do you guys think ???

If your talking about ram air then yes it would help. Search "marthy airbox mod" it will answer most of your questions...

it's not like it's sealed under there.... it gets plenty of air... maybe not the coldest air, but it gets it...

Martin is doing some tests to bring cooler outside air in... wait for his feedback then we'll know....

of course... that is all assuming you have done everything else already

I've wondered that myself. Not only the two on the side, but somehow porting those awesome scoops in front and making them useful.

The obvious answer is that if it would benefit, it would be factory. It wouldn't cost at the production level, to drill holes, and make those cosmetic parts useful.

Not exactly true. Yamaha has already admitted to designing this motor to be easier to control than the old R6 AND that it's a "budget bike". They probably found a way to choke it down and make the power more linear.

Just remember that more air will make you leaner, and lean is dangerous. Someone (cough cough Marthy) will no doubt figure out how to compensate with a PCV or Juicebox for the optimal a/f.

I was actually thinking more of cooling than forced-air into the box. I should have been more specific with my post. Cheers.

Black plastic vents just under knee pad on tank, has hole, poke finger through, feel rubber, rubber is rubber pan on top of engine forming air cavity, might be good place for snorkels.
But then again I am not Marthy.
