First up, thanks for posting your experiences and knowledge - I've been reading through so much info on this forum recently.
This is my first post
I am attempting to build a custom exhaust system for my Australian FZ6R (XJ6F), with the following parameters:
So far:
'99-'01 OEM 5EB Headers, OD 44.45mm (1.75") Rusted as $#!7, oxalic acid soak, some tunes and a scourer, now shiny and ready to go. - $80
5EB Header gaskets, OEM x 4 - $20(total)
5EB Header -> Midpipe joint gasket 46mm ID, 50mm OD, OEM, $15
Yoshimura 12" TRC (Stainless) Muffler - clicky - $150
Total $265
First big question - I've been offered a PC III from a '03-'05 (5SL) R6, am I right in thinking this will fit my '10 FZ6R? (in Aus, it's an XJ6F on the VIN, just has FZ6R on the decals etc), just needing a different map.
Second question - Will the Power Commander III use my O2(lamba) sensor? - I have looked for this answer, but not found a definitive one. If so, I will weld an M10x1.25 bung in the new headers.
Obstacles:
Trying to go header --> muffler, with short adapter/reducer, to keep muffler in midship position. Header (5EB OEM) OD, 44.45mm (1.75"), Muffler ID 57.15mm (2.25"). OEM joint gasket is ID 46mm, OD 50mm.
Yoshimura Muffler has 2 spring eyes. I intend on welding two eyes on the header or adapter/reducer, whichever ends up being spring length from the muffler eyes.
Any help / thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I will upload a step by step guide and photos, as I think a budget build would be great for those with a little mechanical knowledge.
I have fitting & turning experience and have access to a lathe, welding gear etc, so can turn down an adapter.
Why am I doing this? My colleague suggested it was a stupid idea and I was going to waste $1000+ (Aus is expensive!). I told him I would build a decent system for under $300 and under $400 if I add a Power Commander.
So far, it's $265(sys) and $365(sys+PCIII)

Cheep cheep (like a budgie).
Absolutely no damage to and removal of complete existing system.
Louder at low RPMs than stock exhaust (high traffic commute and sick of people merging into me).
OEM/ high quality aftermarket parts where possible.
Keep midship position.
Fabrication of exhaust - no dramas. Hacking up bike - No!
