Break in Brakes?

Hi y'all,

I bought my new 2013 6r over a week ago, and since it's been cold I have barely ridden. My fiancee drove it home for me because it was too cold the day I signed off on it :D He said the brakes felt weird, were kind of grinding, and didn't feel right. We had just finsihed inspecting the bike and service guy said he'd taken it on a test drive and was good to go. Sales guy said break in period to bed the brakes was 100 miles. I rode it in the neighborhood and to the gas station a few days later and felt the same thing, am concerned about the brakes making too much noise and grinding. Service dept said to bring the bike back to be checked, shouldn't be grinding. I've never had a new new bike so I have no idea what to expect for breaking in the brakes.

any advice guys? Thanks! :)

Welcome, great bike you will enjoy it. I did not have that issue with mine when i brought it home and i would be concerned too. Thats the whole reason we buy a new bike is not to have to worry about that stuff. Also the reason i took it back to the dealer for the first service to make sure everything was good. Id take it back to them.

IMO brakes need a bit of warming for best use, I find my brakes (on any bike) are a bit grainy/ gritty for the first few stops on each ride
I have always put it down to a small amount of surface rust after each & every ride

Have you tried going for a longer ride with a few stop/ starts?

Gradually getting heavier/ later braking may cause the issue to dissipate, otherwise if you're still not pleased take it back to your dealer again or seek a second opinion from a smaller workshop

Update! It is BEAUTIFUL today, and I didn't have to work until 3pm.
I got my fender elim yesterday and finished with the install this morning. Really wanted to get out and ride due to the sunshine. I felt like I could feel every drill in the rotor when braking, and some grinding. not just noise, no squeaking. I was nervous to be honest, taking it out in traffic to get to the dealer. got an escort from the fiancee down to the dealer who rode it, agreed it wasn't right and moved the pads around some. They still felt it wasn't good. They then resurfaced the pads. HUGE DIFFERENCE. no grinding, brakes are a lot stiffer (not sure if that was an adjustment or the pads) and absolutely no noise. Really glad I took it in.

We are both very DIY. I replaced my brakes on my VW the last 2x and did the bedding in process and agree a couple good stops usually does the trick. However, neither myself, my fiancee nor his brother have ever had a brand new bike so we had no idea what it should be like for bedding in the motorcycle brakes. We have a medic/nurse (me), mech engineer (fiancee), and elec engineer (fiancee's brother) in the house so we fix anything and everything. But it was brand new, 25 miles on it from riding it home! so I am glad I had them fix it up.

Many people here have upgraded to stainless steel braided lines, myself inlcluded. I also took it a step further and upgraded to EBC Sintered HH pads. This has made a huge difference in front brake feel and performance.
I may put a braided line in with my list of things I'd like to do :D

Hi guys , i got an fz6r not to long ago aswell. Everything seems perfect on it besides this one noise it makes when i start to slow down like a rubbing noise but then when i pull the clutch in the noise goes away? So its only at low speeds but from a practically point of view it would have to be coming from the clutch or gears ? I have no idea.... could anyone help me out

Could it be chain noise?
