Are LED lights on your bike illegal or legal? Im talking about other then turn signals or taillight, like under the fender and so on? I live in California if that helps

They are illegal in almost all states. California for sure. only time you can turn them on is in your home or show/ event not on the street ticket for sure

Also you will get bashed on for not using the search feature. this subject has been covered various times

Just curious....is synthetic oil better to run in my motorbike?

You guys be nice! Welcome to the site Fmad! We are all buddies here... get used to the sarcasm. In answer to your question, yes LED's are illegal in CA.

You are wrong for many states, it might be illegal in your state but not in a lot of other states.

google is the OPs friend to find the actual state laws in this case.

I know in many states (I've done the research a few times in the past) it is legal but under certain conditions. They follow suit with underglow lighting rules in most cases.

The key is the actual light can not be visible and only the effect of the light may be seen on the bike. So they must be mounted so that other vehicles (cops) can't see the actual light emitting portion but only the light reflecting off of your bikes whatever or the effect of the glow on the road. There are also stipulations about the lights must not be able to shine directly out from the bike at a particular angle. I don't feel like looking up all the documents I created about this in the past right now as it's late and I don't want to search my hard drives.

Also there are restrictions on color as well. The colors can not be emergency colors. So red and blue are not permitted in pretty much every state.

So they are legal but you have to follow the rules...

For cali, If I recall right you can have underglow lighting that hits the ground below the bike but it has to be rather restricted as in a turn it could shine directly into the eyes of other drives (cops) and get you pulled over.

Google your state statutes and do the reading. If you read it from the horses mouth then you can't really go wrong can you?

I know in PA they are 100% legal as long as they do not pulse, strobe or flash. They can be any color and the total lumens illuminating from the bike cannot be more than 150,000 lumens. i was intending to put some red led strips on my bike this winter but havent gotten around to it and may not till next year. the following is from the pa dot.

§ 4310. Motorcycle lighting.
Auxiliary lighting may be added to a motorcycle to protect the driver, including blue dot illumination, standard bulb running lights and light-emitting diode (LED) pods and strips.

I asked some local cops in nj. They told me that they wouldn't personally pull a bike for that reason only, but if you were being a dousche they would be tempted.

I personally don't like accent led lighting.

That post falls under the Never give a cop a reason to pull you over. Never give them anything that could be a reason for them to initiate the act of pulling you over. So if you don't have them on while going down the road they don't have a reason to pull you over and it makes it harder for them to validate things.

So you can get away with a little more douchery... lol.

I got pulled over on my Ruckus, but it was slammed, stretched, motor swapped, and had super bright lime green underglow. He told me it was illegal and then I showed him the page I printed from the MVA website saying it was legal. He said he'll give me a warning, I better go home with no underglow, or he'll ticket me......

I'm not a huge fan of lights on motorcycles, but I tried to make that little scooter as crazy as possible. People loved it.

Some cops are douches and get really pissy when you show them they are wrong.... lol.
