Try taking a picture with something other than a phone in your carport. Who knows, it might help your cause.
I just wanted a nice pic of my bike. It is not background of the month. No offense to those of you that win based on backgrounds. I have a 16 megapixel camera on my phone, better than the 7 megapixel camera that's been sitting in a drawer for years. Photography is not a hobby of mine and I'd rather not spend my money on a camera. To each his own. I've never entered before and have spent a lot of time and money modding my bike so thought what the heck. I didn't take the pic with botm in mind. After my surgeries this off season and therapy I'm just glad to be able to ride.Try taking a picture with something other than a phone in your carport. Who knows, it might help your cause.
I consider the background and location as important (or more) than the bike. But maybe that's just me.
Exactly right...it's not photo/background of the month, it's bike of the month...best looking/most appealing bike. I think a cool background takes away from the bike, but just my 2 pennies..
you all certainly have a valid opinion. I just think we all have the same bike and the same colors and a lot of the same mods so it just gets a little boring after a few years so the background becomes more important.
All but one of the botm photos was taken in a driveway. I unfortunately haven't been able to take many scenic rides due to circumstance and do most of my riding via my commutes to work and some weekend riding near home. Not much in the way of canyons, majestic mountains near my house anyways. Honestly when I go for a ride the last thing I think about is, wow this would make for a nice botm picture. If anything I usually take pics after rides. I'm not a big fan of HDR. I have had that option on most of my phones and tried on everyone and generally prefer the original photo to the HDR enhanced. The lighting wasn't optimal because I had my bike under a carport. I thought other than the background it was a nice pic of the bike itself.When you're out riding, stop off somewhere somewhat scenic and pose the bike to where the sun is behind you and a view of something nice is behind your bike. Try shooting a few different angles and see what ones you like best when you get home and can see them on a bigger screen.
You don't need to be a photographer and your phone should take a good enough picture if you have it set up right (ie: use HDR mode) and the lighting is decent.
While it is BOTM and not Photo of the Month, I can't make myself vote for someone who takes a pic of their bike in their driveway.
Exactly. Set up the bike in front of a fountain or other neat architectural building in town or even an old abandoned factory/barn would look cool.
agreed it doesnt have to be a majestic mountain or whatever. someone did theirs against a wall with a bunch of graifiti on it that looked cool. I have not put one up for a while but i put one up for July cause when i was out last week there was this cool rock i parked next to so took a shot with my phone.
Certainly not trying to get sympathy. I am not saying I should even win. I was just surprised that I only had one vote. That is all I meant! Simple as that...
