New Gear Review

I got a couple things for Christmas and finally got to test them out this past weekend and thought I'd just do a quick review of all of the gear in one thread. I got some Speed and Strength Moto Mercenary shoes (think my wife paid around $80 since I sent her the link). They're not race protective, but offer some ankle and toe protection and look great/feel great. Shifting was spot on (not one missed shift). They are great IMO for casual riding, but aggressive riding I have Bilt race boots (actually pretty nice, but I don't like shifting with them). Icon Overlord Textile jacket (white/some black around $180) is comfortable and relatively cool (it was 82 when I rode the other day). It's an attack fit as per Icon, but I don't think it's overly aggressive. There are no vents to open, but the material in places is stretchy and breathable. I wasn't sweaty at all when I got done riding. It has CE armor for elbows and shoulders and padding for the back (not CE armor, but you can get a CE replacement if you feel you need it). The pants I wore were Bilt Iron Workers kevlar jeans (about $70). I found them to fit true to size and CE armor in knees which is a little low while standing is perfectly in place when riding. The jeans look great and are very comfortable. I got them for daily commuting. I need another pair as they are my only kevlar jeans though. I did get Icon Overlord textile pants, but the fit is horrible so I need to modify them to make them work (which I will in time). That's it! Just wanted to throw that out there if anyone was on the fence about any of these items.

The jacket on my bike is my new overlord jacket. I was really surprised how cool it was since it was 82 when I went for my ride. I purposefully got white just so it wouldn't heat up in the sun (same with my helmet and gloves). Well mostly white. I would love all black gear, but my carbon fiber helmet gets hotter than hell.

I went with the red/black jacket. Sweet jacket in white too!

I really wanted red/black, but was afraid if it was too hot I wouldn't wear it. They have a couple real nice colors to March lots of bikes. Red /black would have looked great with my raven. Combine jacket and air flows nice. Feels like it would definitely protect.

Just watch those jeans. I was going to buy some, then checked online and found a few people who went down at relatively low speeds, the jeans split open, and then got fuuuuuuuuuuuuucked up. I'm an ATGATT guy though.

I read reviews too, most were positive. There are a few different varieties of the Bilt Ironworkers so maybe a different model. I know they're comfy, fit good and seem pretty solid for casual riding. I wouldn't do a track day in them.

I figured as much, just meant that I wouldn't do that kind of riding. Kevlar offer knee protection and low speed slide protection and that's about it. Some offer hip protection as well. Better than shorts or regular jeans. LOL
