How to Install Proton Flush Mount Turn Signals [La-Z-Man Way]

So Today i installed the proton flush mount turn signals kit without removing any farings. I did this to save time.... because my gf wanted me to come over asap....sooooooo i took pictures to kill time wile i did it and figgured i would make a How To on here for you guys <3

P.S. This is my first How To so go easy on me

List Of Required Materials (Or at least what i used)
1x Yamaha FZ6R 2009-2012+
1x Proton Flush Mount Turn Signals (for FZ6R)
1x 8mm Deep Well Socket
1x 1/4 Drive Ratchet
1x 1/4 Drive 1 Inch Extension
1x Roll of Electrical Tape
1x Dikes or Razor Blade
1x Crimping tool or Pliers
2x Hands

Step #1

If you look up inside the farings on the back side you will see this ^ clip holding the wire in two places simply pull the wire up and out of both the clips.

Step #2

This step is easier if you turn your wheel. Simply reach your arm down in by the front forks from the top, and find the back of the blinker tube. It will be located right behind those clips that held the wire.

Step #3

On the back of the blinker tube you will feel this plastic plug being held in the blinker tube by two rubber hooks like show in the picutre above of the blinker i have already removed.

Step #4

Attempt to posistion your figners on it like this ^ your index finger on the hook ready to push one of the hooks away from the plastic plug in the center of the blinker tube and your middle finger on the back of the plastic plug ready to pull it out of the blinker tube.

Step #5

Now pull the hook away from the plastic plug and with your middle finger pull the plastic stoper out of the blinker tube.

Step #6

Next locate the plug on the back side of the blinker tube. It will be at the end of that wire you pulled out of the clips in Step #1. To unclip it you have to find the small clip on it and pull it away from the plug with one hand wile pulling the plug appart with the other.

Step#7

Now you have to cut the plug right off the blinker end of the wire (NOT THE BIKE END) cut it about 1-1.5 inches back from the plug so you have room later to strip and crimp your flush mount to this plug. Then set that plug aside you will need it in a few steps =)

Step #8

You are now free to remove the blinker stem. To do this you can simply pull the stem of the blinker towards the back of the bike and it should come right out. If it feels like its stuck then reach back there with your other hand and squeez the two hooks together to compress the blinkers tube and pull backwards and out on the blinker.

Step #9

Take that blinker Plug you cut off earlier and cut the black fusing tape off it if yours has it, so that you can strip the wires.

Step #10

You now need to strip the wires so that approxamently 1/5-1/4th and inch of wire is showing. To do this you can just gently cut into the rubber sheilding with a razor blade or dikes (Do NOT cut the actual wires) and then bite it with your teath where you just cut the wire and pull it off.

Step #10B

If you choose to (i did) you can cut off about 4 inches of your flush mount wires so that there is not as much slack wiring hanging out on the inside of your faring. Before you cut the wires shorter, its a good idea to mount the blinker, and make sure your wires will go threw the clips and back to the bikes plug for the blinker.

Step #11

Now also strip the wires on your proton flush mount blinker. The yellow and orange wires are the two that control which setting the blinker will be on. if you connect the yellow wire to your plug the blinker will strobe 4 times or so then go off for 1 second and then strobe again. If you connect the orange wire the blinker will simply blink like normal. So with that said ONLY strip the Orange or Yellow wire depending on which setting you want your blinker on.

Step #12

Ok so you have your wires all striped now just take the plug you cut off the old blinker and slide one of the supplied pink splices onto one of the wires. Making sure the acutely wire goes into the metal sleeve inside the splice. With a pair of pliers or crimpers crimp the end of the metal inside the pink plastic so it holds your wire in. Now do this to all three of the wires on the plug.

Step #13

With all three splices installed on the plug give them each a tug to make sure they are crimped tight enough. If they are not you will need to re-crimp them.

Step #14

Now slide each of the flush mount blinker's wires into the other end of the splices. Wire it like this for the standard blink function.
Black = Black
Blue = Red
Brown = Orange
Note: If you have a green wire not a brown wire the green to the orange wire.

Step #14B

For the Strobe feature wire it like so.
Black = Black
Blue = Red
Brown= Yellow
Note: If you have a green wire not a brown wire the green to the yellow wire.

Step #15

Once you have your wires all set up simply finish up by crimping the flush mount blinker wires to your plug.

Step #16

Fold your extra yellow or orange wire over so when you tape the wires up it is inclosed away from the other wires. We dont want a short now do we?

Step #17

I chose to electrical tape my wires so not to show a rainbow under the hood of my bike and to help keep water and dust out of my splices.

Step #18

Inclose your extra wire in the middle of your taping.

Step #19

Now that it is all taped up we are ready to install it on your soon to be sexy bike

Step #20

Slide your wire and flush mount blinnker into the hole on your fender. On the back side of the blinker there will be a threaded stub. Slide the washer on this stub from the back side of the faring. Now hand tighten your lock nut on that same threaded rod. It should only thread on a few turns before it becomes to hard to hand tighten.

Step #21

Now with a 8mm Deep Well Socket (i used a 1/4 drive with a 1 inch extention) tighten the lock nut down on the threaded rod on the back of your blinker. I put the wrench in the bottom and my arm in the top. Wile you do this make sure you hold the blinker tight to the fairing at the same time so the washer dose not slip out of the faring.This washer is going to be all that is holding your flush mount on.
Note: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THIS as soon as your flush mount blinker will not slide around in your faring give it another 1/2 turn or so.

Step #22

All you have to do now is connect your blinker plug back to the bikes plug and then tuck your taped up wire back down into those same two clips you pulled your stock wire out of in Step #1.

ENJOY your sexy new flush mount blinkers!!!!

Awesome write-up, but I've got an issue with my 2012. I wired the front blinkers for "normal" speed, and they work fine...but my rear signalss are blinking at a much faster rate, almost like a bulb is out on one of the front signals.

Has anybody else experienced this before?

You need to get an led specific blinker repay to swap out from the stock relay. Leds cause fast flash on the stock relay.
