I lowered and kept the stand stock. if you are going to parking in public a lot then you probably need to shorten it. It stands up much straighter and has a much higher chance of tipping to the other side. I kept mine in the garage and did not park in public much so it worked out fine for me.
I changed my fork oil recently and had the same coloration. It looked bad. I guess it's the Yamaha special blend. I put in 10wt oil as well but I'm on the heavy side. My results were spot on. From reading and advice, if your rebound is too stiff it will drift out on turns. Too soft will dive in.
