So I figured I'd take photos and notes from my TBR exhaust install. It's pretty easy and the instructions are good compared to others, but I was hoping this might help. 'Advisory, my pipe came with a silencer already installed. If you don't want this in make sure you take it out before completing the job, otherwise it is kind of a pain if all you have to take it off is the supplied hex key'
1) Make sure your bike is at least on a rear stand. Front and rear would help or of course a lift would be optimal. Make sure the bike is completely cooled down.
2) You need to remove the RIGHT side fairing and front headers cover. As you can see we have a fan blowing at it to cool it down. Follow the instructions if you need help finding the bolts but they are pretty easy to see. Three on the top of the fairing, one on the bottom left, One towards the top on the left, and one on the bottom right. Then 4 on the front of the (black) headers cover. Make sure you keep track of them and where they go for later placement. Once you get it off you'll want to unplug the turn signal light to remove completely.
3) Now once the headers and everything are cooled down you can start to unscrew the 8 nuts holding on the 4 header pipes. Just loosen them for now.
4) Now go to the stock exhaust and look for the bolts holding it up there. The instructions from TBR only show one bolt but there are two. One in this picture by the stock exhaust opening, and then on the other side behind the kickstand as shown in the TBR instructions Picture.
5) Once those are loose then you can remove the stock exhaust. It would be ideal to have 2 people working on this mod. Hold the exhaust up and remove all header nuts (8) and the exhaust bolts (2) Make sure to retain these nuts/bolts. Also make sure the OEM gaskets (4) stay in place in the slots of the manifold.
6) Now you can take the TBR Muffler Mounting Bracket (supplied) and one of the OEM bolts you removed from the old muffler, and one of the supplied 12mm flange nuts. 'Notice the instructions say 8mm but they must have changed a few things because they ARE 12mm' and loosely hang the Mounting Bracket on the OEM Mounting position on the RIGHT side of the bike where the old Muffler opening was.
7) Now you can have your helper hold the new TBR headers, along with collectors (another change from the instructions, TBR sent my headers and collectors already welded together as one piece, sweet!!) up the the manifold (make sure your gaskets are still in place) and attach using the OEM nuts. Only attach loosely for now.
7) Take the supplied X-Ring and put around the end of the last collector, pointed sides towards rear.
8) Now take the Muffler Clamp and make sure you remove the packing plastic stuck onto it. The take the rubber liner and wrap around the metal from the inside. Then once shiny and in place you can put it around the Muffler. We figured the best/only placement would be to have the TBR emblem facing down Edit: You can mount the pipe sideways so the emblem shows, you just have to make the clamp bend for you to fit sideways, and make sure the TBR symbol stamped into the clamp facing outwards from the bike.
9) Now use some of the supplied High Temp Silicone and apply to the collector end, and then have your helper hold up the Muffler while you attach it using the X-Ring. Also attach the Muffler Clamp to the Muffler Mounting Bracket using the OEM bolt and 12mm nut.
10) Now everything is hung in it's place so make sure it is good clearance and alignment. Now you can start to tighten everything up. Start with the header nuts 1st. The manufacturer says 14 Lbs of torque but we used 10 lbs.
I'll be checking later to make sure they are still tight. Then go tighten the X-Ring Bolts with supplied Allen wrench. And finally tighten the Clamp using two 12mm wrenches. Put on your fairing (make sure you reconnect the turn signal) and header cover.
YOU ARE DONE!! Now turn the key and fire her up! The following sounds will make you want to jump up on the bike and ride around for days!! Congrats and enjoy yourself. Just make sure to go back after 50 to 100 miles and make sure everything is tight and sealed. I knew you could do it!!
