The Givi and the SW-Motech are different racks for different purposes.

The Givi is for use ONLY with Givi V35 contoured sidecases. The SW-Motech is a "straight sided" rack that can be used for almost all cases (including Givi cases) other than the Givi V35. Which one you would want depends on what kind of cases you want. Personally I'm a fan of cheaper Givi E21s for bikes like ours.

If you're looking for Givi V35s, which are the best looking on the FZ6R, then you need the Givi rack. If you're looking at other case options including of the cheaper Givis, then the SW-Motech is the only option for the FZ6R.

Both racks are field-removable. You mount little tabs to key spots on the bike (under the grab bar, and on the passenger footpeg, IIRC), and the rack itself attaches to the tabs using a special tool (Givi) or simple 1/4-turn lock fittings that can be done/undone with a coin (SW-Motech). Problem with the SW-Motech arrangement is that while it's easy to get on and off, it's also easy to steal. So they offer the option of a "hard bolt kit" that allows you to bolt everything on. Can't be easily removed, but also can't be easily stolen. Personally I think the hard-bolt kit is a rip-off. There's nothing there that a person with a brain and a visit to the hardware store could not come up with themselves for a few bucks.

What cases do you plan to use? That will determine what you should get. I wouldn't waste my time with the hard bolt kit. Buy some appropriate bolts and replace the stock fittings if that's what you decide you need.

I was looking at the V35 as I plan on doing quite long trips but are you saying the V35 are not compatible with the sw motech racks? And if not does givi make a rack that will fit for the v35 or does anyone else?

The V35s only work with the Givi racks. From what I remember when shopping for my V35 racks there are two racks Givi makes that will work with the V35 cases. The PLXR364 rack is the one I have, and was told by a sales rep at Revzilla that this is the rack to get if you are only going to be using the side cases. If you plan on having the V35 sidecases as well as a Givi top case then you need a different Givi rack that will incorporate all three cases. I can't speak to the rack that incorporates all three as I haven't even seen it, but the V35 side rack specific one hugs the bike very nicely and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. It blends in so nicely (especially if you have a black 6R) that I leave it on all the time as the bike is my only form of transportation and am constantly snapping the cases in and out. After lots of research I decided on the V35s for their rack system, contoured design, and features. Although pricey, I recommend them if you're looking for a good investment and a quality product.

Givi makes the PLXR364 for the V35 sidecases, and the FZ364 for the top case. You can buy either or both, they work together just fine. Givi's documentation sucks and some of the sellers have things mislabeled or otherwise screwed up.

The one thing I did notice is that the top-case rack uses a bracket that attaches underneath the bike's tail. I'm not sure how this might be challenged by some of the fender eliminator kits, that seem to fit in the same space. Somebody else could possibly look at the instruction and make a better judgement on that.

Thanks for the great info guys. im fairly set on getting the v35s so givi racks it is just need to do some good research on what i need to do. unfortunately not as easy as the sw motech would made things so much easier.would the swmotech top box rack fit with the givi rack maybe?

I always thought it was a bit odd that you had to buy a whole separate rack system if you wanted to incorporate the top case, especially since they are sooo expensive. good to know if i ever want to add that option i can without replacing my current setup. for now i bought an enormous water proof duffel bag that i lay across the passenger seat and side cases and attach with bungee cords.

I have a fender eliminator and will be installing the v35s and the e55 cases with givi racks sometime this spring. Once done, I will get pictures and a bit of a narrative to explain how the interference issues end up.

Ask Dart. The V35 use the stock FE bracket for attachment. If you have some wide signals on your FE it might bottom out on the case...

I have a DMP fender kit, but shaved off the mounting points for turn signals and instead use a MotoDynamic integrated taillight, so the issue with the turn signals making contact with the sidecases isn't an issue for me. However IMO there looks to be sufficient room for a smaller set of turn signals with an FE kit but not sure if the stock signals are mounted to an FE kit.

Looking at the SW-motech tail rack, I would guess it would not conflict with the Givi side-rack, but it does remove and replace the existing grab bars.

Also, after adding the Givi adapter plate to the SW-Motech tail rack (not pictured on TwistedThrottle) it is both twice as expensive as the Givi, and fairly ugly. None of these things is especially pretty without the box mounted on it, but the SW-Motech is kind of a rube-goldberg contraption with various removable adapter plates that can attach to a single aluminum base. Useful if you use different boxes at different time and works well, but not incredibly elegant.

The rack that appears to use the Fender Eliminator mount points is the Givi top case rack, FZ364, not the sidecase rack. No question that it would be fine with the standard fender.

Somebody with better knowledge of FE kits than me would have to comment on whether it conflicts.

The SW-Motech top case rack replaces the grab rails and uses the grab rail mount points, so should not conflict with any FE kit. It also doesn't look like it would conflict with the mounting tabs for the Givi side-rack (SW Motech side-rack mount points are identical):

This is what I got...

It uses the rear passenger foot pegs... and the four top bolts where the grab bar is.... it hooks to itself under the fender, but does not connect to it... I got the standard 1/4 turn bolts... they are not standard... but if someone really wanted to take them off, it wouldn't matter if they were screwed or quick locked (though those things are tight without the tool)..

I pretty much leave mine on, unless out camping or at a hotel, then they come in the room/tent with me at night. Day in and day out though, I never remove them, wish I had more money for the top case right now, but it will have to wait. That would complete the setup for a good week or two long camping getaway.... The side cases alone are loaded with space, I run it and then strap my tent/sleeping bag on my rear seat. Works like a champ for weekend get-aways!

And for work commuting, I can head out at lunch and do things, grab stuff from the store, etc...

I also keep my daily emergency kit split up in them, chain lube, tire plugs/co2 filler, extra bottle of water/ granola bars, first aid kit, etc... things I might need if I'm stuck on the side of the road for several hours.

Important to evenly load them, or you will feel it...

As promised shifty_90, pics of my setup. A couple things to note:

(sorry about the dirty bike, it's a bit too cold right now in MI to give it a proper washing)

I got the V35s that have the clear lens. standard option is the red. my rear light is clear so i chose the clear lens V35s to match. can't remember if it cost extra but if it did it was minimal.

the white trim on the cases is something I added with plasti-spray.

you'll notice a picture with yellowish looking tape. that is reflector tape i bought as an add-on with my cases, they're contoured for the V35s but you can buy generic reflective tape and cut your own out as I've seen other forum members do. I had to turn the flash on to get them to show up properly. They are meant for safety at night for the traffic behind you.

Near the passenger foot peg attachment point there is a hole in the rack for an optional lock. It's a small hole and i put the biggest lock i could in it but as you can see it's more of a visual deterrent if anything. the real security comes from the proprietary locking system the rack uses with a three prong key. i painted the lock black so it blends in well and if someone sees it, like i said, it'll serve mostly as a visual deterrent.

I didn't strap my large duffel bag on top because it was in the low 20s, snowing, and the wind was whipping around. my hands were pretty frozen already so I'll see if I can set it up again tomorrow with the duffel bag so ya'll can see how it looks. let me know if you'd like some more pics of different angles.

thanks for the photos guys looks like the plxr364 will be the rack with v35s i dont really like the look of the givi top rack set up which is why i liked the swmotech which i think should work will have to double check.

all i know is i have a lot of saving to do first lol shipping to aus is the killer in all of this
