Well, it's not a secret that I'm seriously considering getting a new ride sometime this year. So i have plenty to shop around and compare models. The FZ6R has been a great bike and it's not going anywhere... Perfect little touring bike for what I need.

What I'm looking for is a bike with nice handling and good power. Not necessary looking for a 160HP bike but something with good mid range. I went out today (off today) and drive around 3 dealership. Here's the bike I'm seriously considering.

CB1000R (Look great, Side swingarm, 124HP/73Ft.Lb, from some review the bike handle very well too. (adj. shocks))
Ducati Streetfigther 848 (Bada$$ bike, one of the best of his class, seat and bar riser need upgrade!)
Speed Triple (Digging the side swingarm, seat and riding position feel good, exhaust??? Not so crazy with all the bling bling around the radiator, I always tough the lights were attach to the triple clamp... it look like they just pull ou the fairing off a SS and left it like that... that would change if I get one)
Street Triple (same... just a bit smaller. Like the new exhaust)
FZ1 4 (years outdated but still a very nice bike)
FZ8 (Digging the look of it. Just like the 6R I can tell it's build on the cheap side of the scale and need few upgrade. Rearset, Exhaust and shocks are a must)


So this is where I stand. In the next few months I will try to figure out the + & - and see what I can come up with. I know there's plenty of other nice bikes but I like those better and considering that I live in Florida with no real place to actually enjoy a bike like the Tuono by example.

So if any of you rode those bike before or have friends that did you are more than welcome to pitch in some comments.

Well, Marthy, it's no secret I am in love with my FZ1. I have not spent any time on the other bikes you mentioned, but I considered the CB and the FZ8 when I was shopping. My reasoning against them was: For the FZ8) It's an FZ1 junior,and I knew in time I would want to move up, so why waste the step? Besides the engine, the FZ1 has better features than the FZ8 in a lot of areas. And with the CB) a lot more money than the FZ1 for a bike with similar features and less power. The side swingarm is a nice touch, but they can be hard on axles.

I also looked at an MV Agusta Brutale 1090. I was a little nervous about the maintenance so I chose the Yamaha, but I think you are better set up to stay on top of maintaining a bike like that. It really is a sweet ride. The Ducati is the sexiest thing in the class, and to me it has a sililar vibe to the MV, but maybe not quite as practical as some of the others?

Mostly, though, I want you to get an FZ1 so that you can work out all the mods and do the hard work and then I can just copy you :) Some people say the FZ1 is outdated, but it has the current features you want, and all of the kinks are worked out; it's an extremely reliable bike. Brand new they're not awfully expansive, and you should have no problem finding a new carryover or a great used one for a really great price. None of the other bikes you have mentioned will be able to touch the FZ1 for price. Also, there are piles and piles of mods available for it because it's been around basically the same for a few years now, and lots of honest testing has been done my thousands of riders, so there is good information on what to do and what not to do.

Just gone done reading an article that the Streetfighter and 848 EVO are on the top 10 list of most expensive motorcycle insurance. I love the 848 EVO though... I mean, never ridden one, love the look and reviews I read. Everyone I meet who has ridden a Ducati is in love. My friend couldn't afford the Monster 796 he test rode and still lusts after it.

Street/speed triple would be my choice. I think the 2013 don't have undertail exhaust anymore, I'd prefer a 2012 or before but that's me. I've met two people personally who have owned the street triple. Both said it's an absolute blast and comfy enough for all day riding. If that's not enough upgrade for you, get the speed!

I would just go for whatever bike "speaks" to you! You know that feeling in your heart and gut when "this is the one"!! What one just feels the most natural.

You have been talking about the FZ1 for SOO long it seems like.

Maybe hold off until early winter or so actually and see what happens? Wouldnt you kick yourself if this was the year Yami did something the the FZ1 that you really wanted? We are only about 4-6 months away from the announcements beginning to come out, if even that..

Those are definately nice bikes though. TOUGH DECISION!

I have a friend selling a mint 848 in pearl white with under 3k miles. He said it looks good, but is uncomfortable to ride. he got a steal on that thing and paid $8k from the first owner. He's listed it on CL for around $11k i think.

From what i understand, the FZ1 is just an upright R1 with 1/2 a fairing and with the cans on the side. I'm 260 miles into the R1, and if the FZ1 is anything like it, I think u'll like it. The more I ride the R1 the more I love it. It may not be the best on the performance shoot-outs, but it has a lot of personality and, my god, does that cross plane sound dope.

I almost bought a speed triple r last fall as a second bike. They look unbelievable, and are comfy for the long rides.

However, I'd suggest getting a street over the speed just for cost/insurance, and I just think you don't really need anymore power for the street than way the 675 offers.

Oh, and I wouldn't look at any other brands. :rolleyes:

The current Gen FZ1 is based on the previous gen R1 engine (no crossplane) but it is an awesome bike. I don't need to weigh in here. Marthy knows how much I love my FZ1.

Ridden both the Speed and Street Triple and both are amazing bikes. The Speed will definitely get you in trouble ;)
