Hello fellow enthusiasts,

I was hoping for some insight on the rear sets issue! recently have been in the hills and find my pegs are sitting a little bit too low to the ground for dipping into those corners but havent had much luck finding anything aftermarket. I also have little legs(perks of being a short individual) so I'm finding it slightly more uncomfy with how low they do sit. Is the best course of action the r6 rear sets or is there some aftermarket options that involve the xj6(naked) that are an option. hoping I dont need to drill and tap a new hole.

thanks friends :)

The R6 rear sets are a really good option. People seem to have had good luck using them and they're definitely the cheapest route to go. You will have to drill and tap a hole on each side for the lower R6 rear set bolt. Just not really any way around it, so you gotta make sure you get it right.

I have the Valter Moto 1.5 rear sets for the XJ6 and they have been fantastic. I'd say those are the best option since they're straight bolt-on and adjustable. A little pricy and there were 2 minor things I swapped out on them, but they're definitely worth it and are a really nice piece. If you look in my build thread, you might be able to see them in the pictures. Otherwise I can take some more if you want.

On a side note, if there's a certain part or something that seems like nobody makes for the FZ6R, searching for the same thing for an XJ6 usually brings more results from companies overseas, especially if you use like UK Google. The XJ6 seems like it was way more popular outside NA than the FZ6R ever was here, so there's way more companies with aftermarket support in EU and it all will fit our bikes.

Hey Audace, did you get the ones that allow you to use your rear brake light switch? Any chance you can post pics of both sides?🫣

You are right about finding more parts for the Xj-6, that's how I got my rear shock and fork cartridge kit from the UK.

The Valter Moto kit comes with a brake pressure switch for the brake lights that doubles as the banjo bolt for the line. I just snipped the ends off both brake light switches and spliced the stock connector onto the pressure switch so it would just plug in.

Awesome thanks! Those look really good, I may grab a set to install this winter🙂

Do it! They really are fantastic. They held up perfect through my crash too. Only thing I had to replace was the shift rod (neither joint or anything) and it was only $25.

The only two things I changed out were the bolts for the rear sets to the mounting plates and the rod end for rear brake master.

You got the version 1.5 and it came with the hydraulic brake light switch?

I’ll need to fashion my own shift rod because I have a quick shifter but thats easy and I have a kit of all different size shift rods already. Yours almost look like it came to cut down for a quick shift module? That line on the shift rod, down by the foot peg?

Yup! Everything in the pictures is included in the kit. Only thing that it doesn't include is passenger pegs. Those are a separate item that bolt to the open holes at the top rear of the rear sets.

I'm not really sure what the little line is there for. The shift rod is one solid piece so I don't think it's for a quick shifter. I would have thought it might be a deliberate weak point where the rod could snap in a wreck to prevent other damage, but the bent shift selector I had to replace would beg to differ lol.

Oh I didn't know if the line was a guide for cutting the shift rod down as necessary. See how mine is, they give you these lines to make it easy to cut the shift rod square by hand to fit a quick shifter. Looks like I may have a winter project with new rear sets though I like the R3 pegs just fine but am always looking for upgrades haha. Only so much left I can do at this point and some may think I've gone overboard but I love this bike and plan to run it for the long term. IMG20240909175535.webpIMG20240909175821.webp

Oh I didn't know they had the rods set up like that. I guess I've never really looked into quick shifters before though. It might actually be for a quick shifter cut then.

Weird, where'd my rearsets go?😈. Hey Audace, where did you order your valtermoto 1.5 rearsets from? The only place I can find is Italy?

Yup, they gotta come from Italy. That's the only place that I found them. Omnia Racing is I think where mine came from if I remember correctly because they had a cheaper price. Otherwise there's a seller on eBay named sonicracingparts that sells ValterMoto stuff or I think you can buy them straight from the ValterMoto site. I got replacement parts directly from the ValterMoto site.

Yeah I got mine from Sonic Racing on eBay. I'm in no hurry since it's winter. I will need to order some new heim joints as well as a shift rod to make it work with my quick shifter but that's easy I think. Can't wait for some adjustability!

I forgot to mention. If you end up finding the rear brake feel a little weird like I did, I can send you the links for the parts I used for swapping to the steel rod end over the nylon one that comes with the Valter Moto kit. It made a noticeable difference to me, but I'm really picky about that kind of thing.

Yeah sure can you send me a link to what you got? I've read in other reviews that the Valtermoto rearsets are high quality but the rod end bearings they use are junk. I've got 2 Yamaha rod ends for the shifter side but need a good quality rod end for the brake side.

The ones on the shifter side have seemed fine to me. They're nice steel pieces. It's just the brake side that was iffy in feel with the weird nylon rod end.

Rod End - This is what I grabbed for the rod end. There's stainless options too in case you want to go with that. I just wasn't sure how things were going to fit yet when I was buying the parts, so I just tried to keep it cheap.

Bearing Spacer - The ValterMoto brake side uses an M6 bolt to attach the brake lever to the nylon rod end which makes it really weird being an M8 female thread and M6 ball joint bore. I just use this sleeve bearing to reduce the ball joint bore to 6mm. The ball joint width is 12mm so it fits perfect.

Another thing I grabbed was different bolts for the rearsets to the mounting plates. It's not really necessary and VM provides 10.9 hex key/allen style bolts for them, but for me they began to strip out over the course of taking them on and off testing out the different positions. It's probably just because I was torqueing the bolts with an older set of hex bits, but either way I got these low-head Torx bolts in M8x1.25 - 16mm to replace them since the Torx style is less likely to strip and still has the low-head fitment that sits flush in the rearsets.

Also just fyi, I weighed my stock rearsets and between the two of them with both shift and brake levers they weigh 8lbs lol. Still waiting on the Valtermoto rearsets so not sure how much they weigh but I bet they don't weigh 8lbs! A little more weight reduction is an added bonus to the adjustability you get with these.

FINALLY got my rear sets after a couple months. It wasnt the eBay sellers fault as they shipped to me straight from Valtermoto. I am missing the brake side heel guard which they promised to ship to me asap so no big deal.

I see what you mean about the plastic ball joint! Why!?! I took your advice and got the same ball joint and bushing you suggest. I also had to order some clamps from Bel-Metric to replace the radiator hoses on my truck so for $.80 a piece I got the bolts you suggested as well.

These rearsets complete with all of the hardware weight 2.8lbs so that's more than a 5lb weight savings! I'll take it!

Hey Audace, after getting my rear sets and seeing the spacers, I noticed on your left side rearsets, the bottom spacer slipped down. Not sure if you already noticed that and fixed but just wanted to let you know
