Alarm installation - Ignition ON wire - Where to find?

Hello ppl,

I'm Nuno from Portugal and I'm new to this forum as I just got a naked XJ6 and I'm already needing some help.

The bike is new and I'm installing an alarm to it from my old bike and I'm facing a little problem. The alarm is up and running but there is an additional feature I would like to implement to detect any attempt to hot-wire it.

Do you know where can I find a wire that gets +12V when the ignition switch is ON regardless if we are pressing or not the engine start button?

Yes, because most of the time, when I say wire tester, people don't know what I am talking about. I was just trying to beat him to it if he didn't know.

switched power

You want to search this forum for the term "switched power". There is a harness of wires under your passenger seat on the right (as you face forward on the bike). One of the wires emanating from that harness is your license plate illumination power, another is your tail running light -- you want one of those. You can identify the one you want by switching on the power, jamming the probe from your tester against each connector, and grounding the other end.

Thank you guys!!

I was not even aware the rear lights were on with the ignition switch only.

Anyway, I've found the tails lights right next to my connection to the turn signs and will set up using them.

PS: No, we don't have an Auto Zone but we have some equivalents. And we also have eBay!!! :D
