    Hypermiling

When I was in Holland a few weeks back, I rode from Den Helder to the Hague @ 55mph. As the landscape is flat with no grades at all, and there was no wind, I was getting 82 mpg-imperial or about 68mpg-US. Was in the slow lane all the way, but did result in a cheap holiday.

How much of your money is spent on gas?

Look on the bright-side - you guys are still paying half what we pay in the EU. Here in England, gas/petrol is £1.35 a litre, so about $7.88/US Gallon. It's putting a real strain on the economy. Diesel is even dearer at $8 a USgallon. I don't own a car now, my XJ6 is my sole mode of...

    Carbon Fiber helmets

I have a HJC carbon fibre helmet - it is the real-deal, not fake carbon. I think it would stand-up well in an impact, curved carbon fibre surfaces are inherently strong (i did some work on composites in the last year of my degree). It has one problem - it is very noisy; i think this...

    Happy St. Georges Day

To all Englishmen and Englishwomen, as well as Anglophiles [I know there are few on here], Greeks, Lithuanians and Georgians - Have a great St. Georges Day. May our fellow riders in Canada and in United States also enjoy a great day - take some time to slay your personal dragons!:D

t-rex frame sliders.. save your money

Sorry about your off, don't give up on your awesome adventure. Frame sliders do snap-off they hit a bump or crack or whatever they can shear-off. Remember the actual act of shearing will have dissipated energy, so although the nylon 'mushroom' wearing down would have been preferable it...

Swingarm - how to put back on

I have fitted quite a few swing-arms over the years and they can be a bloody tight fit. Just a thought though, the engine is a stressed member. It might be that the frame is being 'pulled in' by the engine mounts (makes sense), if you loosen them off a bit you might be able to get the swing...

    Direct Ignition?

The idea is that leads can leak to earth, due to wear and tear, ozone damage etc, causing more misfires and potentially worse emissions and performance. Direct coil-on-plug reduces the links in the HT part of the ignition and so is less likely to lead to misfires - a lot of yamahas seem to...

    Direct Ignition?

quite a few bikes have pencil coils now - my 08 zx6r had them. i think yam have stuck to two coils (with wasted spark) as it is quite a bit cheaper. Pencil coils are less prone to damp - the standard coils should be good for at least 6 years or 50000miles before they need replacement...

    2009 Fz6R?????? what is this

It has to be said Yamaha's whole naming system and model hierarchy needs a total overhaul - do the marketing teams in Japan, Europe and North America have no imagination or desire to keep the branding contemporary? It makes the mind boggle, that their designers and engineers can come up with...

    DIY Panniers/saddlebag rack?

Well with plxr rack, you can still strap you soft luggage to it and know it won't fall in towards the wheel and you have that future upgrade potential to hard boxes. I recently bought Kappa K33Ns from Italy for £157 + £21 postage,,,, cheap as chips: Yamaha XJ6 - Kappa K33N

    DIY Panniers/saddlebag rack?

I have the Givi pannier rack (very similar, but for hard cases) - this stuff is good quality overall, occasionally the welds get surface rust, but no big deal. It will probably say a very low weight capacity, but i ignore this info, as do most riders.
