HI
I'm new on here, so bare with me if I'm doing this wrong. I don't have the FZ6R,yet, but have been looking at purchasing one. I started out on a Ninja 500 & am ready for an upgrade. Before I invest I want to make sure it will work. I'm vertically challenged, so I'm assuming I may need to lower the bike to have better footing. Has anyone had success with lowering one? Is it better to do yourself or take it somewhere and have it done? Anything else need to be altered along with lowering the seat? Thanx for the help/info!

Several people have lowered on here, you can get links from 1 to 2 inches for about 100$ and probably the same to put it on. You can put on yourself if mechanically inclined and have some kind of stand. A lot of other people recommend against it, bike is designed at that height, hurts handling etc. and say if you can get the balls of your feet down to leave it alone. I was really torn being short myself but I wound up leaving it but still think about doing it once in a while. Backing up is where It sucks the most so I always try and park a little farther away in a spot I can pull through or turn around in to face forward. If you remove the seat height adjuster altogether as well as the rubber stoppers under the seat it will lower it about 1/2 in or so. There are also people that will re-work your seat but I have not seen any results of that and other people say there just isn't enough room in this seat to lower that much if any. Hope that helps.

I have my front dropped an inch and a half (needed to add clip on bars not for height 5'10"), but no handling issues whatsoever. Actually seems to handle better IMO. Most recommend to lower the rear as well, but no plans here. Love it as is with front lowered.

Does dropping the front lower your feet to the ground? Was it easy to do? no problems with cables or anything? that sounds interesting cause I just need like a half inch or so.

I lowered both front and back. 1.5in in back, 1in up front. Im height challenged for most sport bikes ive tried (5'6"), but not so much for this one. It feels more comfortable for me it being lowered. And I havent noticed any handling issues, but ive only taken her around town. Mine wad done at home with some help from my husband. Wasnt too difficult, but we had all the tools we needed.

I'm not very tall, 5'8" but if I slide forward on the seat, I can pretty easily put both of my feet almost flat on the ground. The only time I have any trouble really is if I'm on gravel. Otherwise I just park so I can pull out straight, because it's kinda easy to move the bike forward, but she's a heavy beast to try to back up with no reverse.

If I'm sitting back, I usually just put one foot on the ground, or one foot flat/other on the ball. Maybe my legs are kinda long?

Roaring Toyz Lowering Kit - FZ6r

My partner lowered mine last year. I have an 2011 FZ6r that I bought a year ago. I am 5'6" and was having "tippy" issues at stops. It is top heavy as a few people have commented on. He lowered both front and back and WOW - what a huge difference. Lower centre of gravity, flat foot, and huge increase in confidence for me! NO performance issues. My BF rode it as well to test it and he agreed that performance was not affected (which many people fear).
There is a recent link on the main forum that I saw about Roaring Toyz.
Good Luck !

I ride a 2013, FZ6R, bought it late 2014. Tweaked the suspension to make it stiffer in front. Also swapped out the stock struts to stop it from diving during hard braking in turns. I guess you are right about top-heavy. Thing is, it helps me lean into corners without as much effort, so I'm not complaining. I'm 5'7" and lowered it as far as it would go when I first started riding it.

Soon I could feel how much extra effort it was causing me, so I raised the saddle back up half way. With practice and a few slo-mo fall-overs at 2 mph in the parking lot, I finally got a handle on it.

FZ6R is my sporty, nimble, get around town bike. I can ride in a 3/4 or upright position. It's torque means when idiots in cars try to run me off the road, I have enough power to get out of their way fast without having to downshift.

I would like a sport-touring bike for getaways over the weekends of a few hundred miles. I committed to a long ride a couple of years ago. Thought I would die. Trips of 45 min to an hour are my limit. Revzilla sourced a perfect set of Givi hard saddlebags for me. They looked a lot better on the bike than in the picture online.

Have a look see.

They are very sport-oriented design and carry a lot more than I thought possible.

Warning to those dropping the nose more than 16mm as it tends to degrade high speed stability...

On the FZ6 fitted with R6 forks the change of 8mm to 12mm above the top triple is a lot and under power w the nose light it can get into a tank slapper.

So, if on rough roads, playing aggressively, and the nose lowered a lot, be careful at speeds over 1xxmph as they can get very unstable.

FWIW: many lower the FZ6 w/the drop link on the shock and few report performance issues.
