What Not To Wear (while riding)

I've seen it more and more lately now that summer is here. Guys have nice Leather Jackets, Helmets, some even have Boots, yet they don't have GLOVES! WTF... I feel so naked without gloves. Can someone please explain to me WHY... WHY WHY WHY... I want to roll down my window sometimes and just ask.
I don't wear gloves unless it's cold or wet out. I like you to see my finger when you ask me silly questions lol! jk.

I just don't like them. I don't always wear all my gear either, but then again, I live in the plains states and still have no interest in taking off the chicken stripes, I wish they sold yellow tires so I could really show em off. I do the speed limit, and don't think I am a track star, I don't lane spliit, (we cant), I don't go "stuntin", I just ride. Thousands of miles at a time, not hundreds, THOUSANDS. So please don't be tooooo preachy, all the pictures above, are they actually doing the speed limit? hmmmmm? That's why.

Thanks for giving me your take on it. I don't preach gear, as far as i'm concerned Darwinism will run its course. Regardless of someone doing the speed limit or not, if you are wearing a jacket, why aren't you wearing gloves. It seems silly to me - if you fall you're naturally going to put your hands down. No gloves = shredded hands no?

Anyone know what the motorcycle police uniforms are made out of? It does not look like he is geared up to good. Would be interested in knowing if their pants are sort of like three kevlar jeans?
They have different options. Of course he has his ballistic vest under his uniform but a lot of it is at the rider's discretion. They do have more full equipment available for the officers (including full face helmets, etc) but they aren't required. They tough part is that any gear has to conform to the uniform standards

Actually you would be really not so smart and darwin will prove that one, You should NEVER put your hands down first! good luck with the broken wrists, multiple compound fractures and breaks that ensue and travel up into your elbow joints and shoulders.

The gloves were there to keep skin IF you do land hands down. Ask three of my friends, oh and my dad, what happens to the wrists, and arms. I will say they all walked away, but it's a bitch to sign yourself in at the hospital lol! All of them were able to keep their gloves though, so there's your positive. lol! I do wear my gear 90 percent of the time. I naturally tuck my hands and go for a flattened position when I fall, I have laid one bike down, I slid, not a single bruise, 65mph. It does suck, and the helmet makes a ton of noise grinding down the pavement, but hey, I was up in a minute, and oh wait, I did split a nail that has never grown back right, it is literally groing split in two. damit! lol...

You asked a question, more to the point of almost a preacher of a southern baptist church I went to with a freind. OH LORD!!!!!!!!! WHY!!!!!!! lol!

Look it's cool, if you like to wear gloves go for it. I do and sometimes I dont. I noticed you failed to answer the question of do you speed whilst driving in the mountains?? Is it proper riding technic for THE STREET to be aggressive and not be on the side of caution? why do you feel the need to scrub the chicken stripes? on public roads? not on a closed course? and don't forget, if you spell " I cup" you may be a pervert. lmao!

The pants and shirt he is wearing is 100% wool or a wool blend. No kevlar (besides vest) or special lining for the uniforms material. The problem is tradition...it sounds crazy, but that's the problem. The CHP uniform hasn't changed much over the years and it's tough to break tradition. Although, the CHP has recently approved a textile jacket with armor that many motors are purchasing now. They can wear a leather jacket, but in summer and So-Cal, that's just too hot. I did hear that they are testing full face modular helmets as well, but they aren't approved yet.

Here's a handful from the last couple of weeks. Saw a TON of squids out there today in shorts and t shirts. Think there was only one photog out on 94 today though so probably not too many pics going to be up from today.

Really??

Oh this sucks!

WTF????

Nice boots

This guy's got to be joking with this form.

This guy too

Seriously? This is just brilliant.

Ultimate Squid. No gear and run wide on Palomar. Idiot.

On a brand new ZX10, one of the most powerful bikes sold.
The last bike is a Ninja 1000, not ZX-10R. Just sayin.

Believe it or not, the armored vests + t shirts are more of a "fashion statement" than anything else... And, they only wear it cuz it "looks cool.". Not for the protection.

U'd be surprised at how newbies think.

That's the thing about the armored vests- they don't cover the common contact points of shoulder, elbow, knee, hip.

See red, the problem with going gloveless is that crashes happen so fast that you just don't have time to override the natural reaction of a human to break their fall with their hands. Maybe you have stuntman skills and really know how to fall, maybe not. Seems to me that during a crash is a terrible time to find out.

I don't doubt that you are an extremely safe rider. I am too. The problem is that there are humans in cars out there that you can't control. There's no telling which card is wild in this hand.

I agree Chuck, I've had roadrash on my hands before and it F*ckin sucks, there is no way that I leave w/o gloves on.

No preaching out of me. Just a simple question which seemed to strike a chord. Yes I speed. Yes I wear gear and yes I believe well over 50% of riders would attempt to put their hands down during a high-side or low side.

This is why my question was directed to those who wear jackets, yet wear no gloves.

Hate to tell you, but that is DEFINITELY a ZX-10R, just saying. The bars are clip-ons #1 (zx-10R), The engine overall takes up more space (zx10R) and the bike looks 100% stock and the ninja 1000 has an exhaust on both sides. Just saying.

The guy leaning away from the turn is probably a bicyclist. With a bicycle if you're going into a turn at speed you lean the bike in but you lean out - just as he's doing. With a bicycle ALL of the weight is up top (the rider). If you lean all the way with the bike you will continue all the way to the ground. Learned that in police bike school, Ft Lauderdale, FL. Good course, thought I knew a lot about bicycles - I didn't. Know a bit more now although not an expert by any means. David

I dont know its been getting so damn hot here I hate to say it and let the bashing begin but .....ive been riding without my jacket during the day . I still wear my helmet , gloves, boots but when its 95 with a 110 heat index its too hot to wear the jacket. When im riding in at 5 in the morning i wear my jacket but on the way home i take all my duty gear and vest off throw it in my backpack and roll with it . I know what can happen ive seen the bad part of motorcycling (going to wrecks) , its a risk we all take everytime we get on the bike . its all something we are aware of . it is what it is

In all honesty, I can see your reasoning. I don't know what the temp is like in NC, but the humidity makes it feel like being suffocated with a wet, electric blanket here. I've still been wearing my jacket everyday, but I have to admit I've left it open on blistering days, or I couldn't ride at all. I'm also bad about not using my gloves when I'm going less than 2 miles, but I have a feeling I'd wear them more if I got some more comfortable gloves.

Here in South MS I've been watching, and in the last 6 weeks (beside myself) I've only seen one single bike with a guy using a riding jacket.

I've ordered a Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 that is *hopefully* better than my tourmaster with airflow. I wore that tourmaster through winter and never once needed the actual "warmth" layer, even on the coldest mornings.

Maybe a different / better jacket would make it easier on you?
