Please forgive me my English, as it is not my first, or even second language. Though, I'm trying my best.

I was walking by just now...and I couldn't help to notice that my husband was drying his motorcycle shoes...with my $200.00 hair dryer..fml

Serious question: What do I gain by installing aftermarket levers? Just increased adjustability?

Looks and adjustablilty mainly. If you get the shorty ones you also decrease the risk that they will bend/break and become unusable if you wreck. You might be able to ride home, vs. having to get the bike towed.

How hard is it to get used to the shorty levers? That's actually something I'm interested in. They work well for brake and clutch?

I only ever use two fingers to brake anyway, so that didn't take any getting used to for me. The clutch is a bit harder to get used to, but you'll adjust.

I've always used shortys on my dirt bikes, and just put a set on my VFR800. I haven't had any difficulty with it, but the VFR does have a hydraulic clutch.

I'll try to chime in again when I try them on the 6R.
