That's the difference between us; you have stuff made, I make stuff.

Is it expensive? sure, somewhat, but it's what I enjoy doing.

o_O I'm all about "making" stuff within reason that makes sense, and understand the pride in "built not bought." If you have the money and time to waste, then go for it.

I dont have the access to a machine shop, the time to take away from my professional work schedule, and also away from my personal life when I have a working machine that has more power than most people will "need."

If you were to reduce the weight significantly, however, I would think there would be a point where the power to weight ratio would affect the power transfer to the ground and it may be necessary to then go with a larger rear tire. I dont know if it's possible to make the fz's motor THAT strong, while also making the bike THAT light. one of the highlights of the fz IS its agility for being a heavier/ underpowered bike, thanks to thank pizza cutter on the rear, so fattening up the rear IS going to sacrifice agility and will also slightly raise the COG when tipped over in a lean. just means you gotta hang off more

I guess what drives my opinion is putting in maximum effort for minimal gain. As stated above though, if you have the time, money, access, and will... go for it...

That's cool, all I'm saying is I don't "make stuff within reason" but rather "making stuff is my reason" I love to ride, but I spend way more time in the garage (by garage, I mean driveway, cause I got a house with a family room... we all make mistakes lol)

OFC I do require function to be behind my craft (so I don't just glue a bunch of scrap metal bits to a bike and call it art) so the point on power transfer is a thing to take into consideration. That being said, when the FZ6(non-r) went from steel to aluminum the savings were "only" 11lbs (I use quotes cause I understand that is significant, but when you consider that you can save like 8 just changing the battery, it's relative significance drops it down on the priority list)

There's a lot to think about and tinker with for me, which is what I love. I'm super tired right now but there's tons of plans and schemes I've got in my head but I'm super tired right now so I'm a bit sluggish in the memory department, but I appreciate your feedback and would love to keep bouncing ideas off you, plus you seem like the kind of guy that'll keep me from doing anything so hair-brained that I end up destroying the bike lol I could use a guy like you on the team*

    *doesn't actually have team

Lol I've got a shed... I feel your pain... The dogs just HAD to have a fenced in yard, but dad couldnt get a friggin garage...

I didn't realize that folks had gotten the "r" to the limits of the upper 80's and low 90's in the power department. I reached out to Scott T on here to see if he had seen any significant tire wear since adding all of his upgrades and he stated no more than normal, so I wonder where THAT limit lies. Speaking relatively, i know the moto3 class bikes have 120 rear rubber (but only 35 HP) and I'm sure they would outrun a stock fizzer all day.

I'm completely there with you on the scheming and planning side... I'd love to be able to fit an 04 R6 fairing to the front of our bike and drop the clip ons under the tree. I'd think this, combined with the Valter Moto rear sets would really put you in a better "dancing" position on the bike.

Good info on the battery.. I think mine is beginning to weaken. The aforementioned shed is not exactly climate controlled and all efforts to build a ramp to store in the "gun/ bike" room so far have been thwarted.

Unfortunately, when reading about the cam swap, the timing advance, and then adding in the "normal" power mods (which I have none) I had a depressing realization for my upcoming track day and ultimate goals for this bike - its a stock bike with stickers on it.
But ultimately thats ok. My wife is interested in going to track days depending on how I do/ and like them (Hoping to hit 2 at least this summer) and I think it would be a great bike for her to ride at the track, or a great bike for us to sell and get her an R3 lol. Hopefully by then I'll be on an actual R6 dedicated track bike, and will have a dedicated street bike.

All these lofty plans and looking ahead though dont normally pan out the way we want... lol

I like the R6, my only beef with it is that it doesn't like me (makes my nuts smell like burnt hair) and I want to have children in the future.
